April 2014
Pam Ready, Leisure Services director, said at the volunteer recognition event that volunteer $ per hour equivalent is $22.55. I'm keeping track of the Bee hours and multiplying by $22.55. As of April 16, 2014, Busy Bees have put in 983.5 hours since July 2013 equaling $22,177.93.

I'll be headed out your way tomorrow unless the bee is cancelled??
I have 8 finished quilts; they just need to be bound. All of them
have binding except one.
Get those needles and threads warmed up. LOL
See ya.

I just picked up a hard
copy of The Country Register at the Hall Co guild meeting. It's also online:
It has quilt shops,
quilt shows, quilt train and other quilt related information for your pleasure
starting on page 4.
Thought I'd pass it
along since I'd never seen it before and thought maybe you haven't either.
Anita Heady presented a
very nice program on String Quilts.... hummmm, ya know.... with all those small
scraps in the bins under the window.....

What a lovely surprise
to receive the fond greetings from one-and-all at last Wednesday's Bee!!
Thanks. It's an interesting few weeks working toward a better
schedule. I hope to be back in a couple of weeks - at least once in a
while when we're not "on the road again." I hope to see you
Tues. @ the guild meeting.

Some of you said you
might go to Greensboro on Saturday. Just
wanted to let you know you will not be disappointed, there are lots and lots of
beautiful, well-crafted quilts in their show. It was hard for me to pick a
favorite one to vote for. Good vendors,
too - Anita Heady is one.

Hey Busy Bees!
Just a reminder that we
will meet tomorrow.
There's a lot of finishing
up work to be done. It would be best to
focus on trimming quilts, and making and sewing on binding, so please bring
your sewing machines.

PREVENT CHILD ABUSE
There are 7 quilts ready for PCA, where they put the quilts on the floor and teach parents how to play with their child.
NICU Quilts
I've inventoried what is ready for ARMC and St Mary's NICU's. We have 18 quilts (one is crocheted and very lovely and soft).
The 1930's Pinwheels was totally made by one of our guild members and donated to the Charity Bee - and for the life of me I can't remember her name. Help!!!

15 + 8
A few years ago, my “other” guild held a workshop day and did one of those 1600 jellyroll races and we donated all of them to Eagle Ranch, the guilds charity.
It’s a great way to use up 2 1/5” strips. And the fabric doesn’t have to coordinate.
According to what size it comes out, you just add borders to make it the size you want. I’m sure everyone can bring their sewing machines one day and we can have some fun. Maybe even do what we did, we gave a purchased jelly roll to the winner

The Lake Oconee Quilt

meeting at 9:30.

Hey Busy Bees
Ellen has about worn out
her long arm. She's done some quilting!!!! Here's part of her note:
I have done at LEAST 4 big ones with
at LEAST two or three more to go. I plan to quilt most of tomorrow. I may not get finished with all of
them by Wednesday; I already have a
stack on the back seat of my car that extends to the top of the driver's headrest.
I found one quilt with no backing and
another one with a remnant from the quilt that is not large enough to be a
backing. Those will return for another checking over. The big one
that I did today (applique set on point with light blue sashing and darker blue
borders) took 6 bobbins of thread to quilt and 8 passes across the quilt to get
it done!! I thought I would never finish that thing!!
I think that the Wednesday group has just become too much fun!!
We turn out way too much work for just Joan and me to keep up!!
Joan also has quilts
that she's bringing. She's been so busy that she's lost track of what day it
is!
All that to say... we'll
need to cut binding for some of them, some already had binding picked out.
The Bee has some kits
ready to sew up, so bring your machines.
Linda Murray finished
the binding on the "disappearing pinwheel" quilt and gave it to us at
the guild meeting.
Fabric was donated to us
also on Tuesday night; it's in the trunk of my car since I didn't want to
"clutter up" the studio before the workshop.

Third Friday is this
week.
A lot of you were interested in going to this on Friday, Mar
28.
Let's firm up who is going and time and place to meet to for carpooling.
Lake Oconee QUILT-FEST, presented by the Lake Oconee Quilt Guild, will be held March
28 and 29 in Festival Hall, Greensboro, GA, from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.

any interested parties. Thanks!

Brenau University
Galleries in cooperation with the Georgia Humanities Council is holding an
open, juried textiles and fiber exhibition and sponsored oral history project
entitled “Women’s Work”.
Fiber and textile artists residing in the state
of Georgia are encouraged to submit 2-D and/or 3-D pieces, garments and/or

each piece. Photos should be 72 dpi. Artists must also supply a title and
dimensions of each work as well as a brief artist’s statement (less than 250
words) about their work and how it relates to the theme of the exhibition.
Artists whose work is
chosen for the exhibition may be asked to participate in the oral history
project component of “Women’s Work” which will include being interviewed about
their work while being video recorded. This oral history component will be a part
of the exhibition.
Deadline for entries is March 30. Artists

show will be required to arrive at the gallery no later than June 30,

==================
25th
We'll meet tomorrow, Feb
26.
Many quilts are waiting
to be finished; i.e. trimmed, find and make binding, and then do the binding.
Please let this be our
top priority and put your expert eyes and hands on this, I think there are
enough tops that are quilted so that everyone can "take charge" of
one to trim, prepare and apply the binding, and the extras can go to the guild
meeting for a member to check out and apply the binding and return in April.
Bring your machines or
plan on taking a quilt home to do the binding.
Secondly, we have tops
that need backs, so if there are more people than quilted tops needing binding,
then that's the next thing to focus on.
Who knows? Maybe the
pattern for the head covers Joan and Mary Ann are looking for will be in that
basket.
Cya tomorrow.

Lake Oconee
QUILT-FEST, presented by the Lake Oconee Quilt Guild, will be held March 28 and
29 in Festival Hall,, 201 N. Main St, Greensboro, GA 30642, from
10:00 am to 6:00 pm.
We are
really working hard to make this a nice, classy show. We have 150 quilts,
some for sale, plus a collection of antique sewing machines, and a nice
group of antique quilts on display.
On the stage
we will have vendors selling fabric, books and quilting supplies. We will also
have a boutique of handmade gift items for sale.
Our
beautiful raffle quilt will be on display and you may purchase tickets for
$1.00 each, and we will also have our very popular bake sale.
==================
CPQ and 501c3
I delivered 4 adult size
bibs and 7 lap quilts to ACCA today. The ACCA donation form is attached.
Replacement value for
the items was used to determine the prices. That means: what a person would pay
for the fabric, batting, backing, thread, time to sew, and a long-armer, and
doing the binding, etc.
Having a record of what
the charity bee donates might come in handy since we are a 501c3, and it's easy
enough to do.

AUDIT OF LEISURE SERVICES PROPOSED
Just an FYI from onlineathens for those of you interested in Leisure Services department and Lyndon House which is a part of it.
All the comments will be emailed once compiled and I will forward to you once I receive the email. I did not take notes.
Nutshell of procedures:
LH staff, Nancy L, was
there, but at opening, the facilitator said LH staff were there only to
observe. I didn't recognize anyone else if other LH staff were present.
Groups of 4-5 people sat
together & facilitator gave us a few minutes to write down our 3 top
concerns. One person in each group recorded them and then reported to the
entire group.
Next we shuffled into
new groups - some people just stayed put. We were to list our vision for the
future of the LH. Those visions were also reported to the entire group.
Pam Reidy, Director of
Leisure Services, sat in and participated in the small group discussions.
All Clarke Co
Commissioners + Mayor were invited. Doug Lowry was only one to come. He
addressed the group at the end.
No idea how soon I'll
get the email listing all the ideas but will get it to you ASAP.

Hey Busy Bees!
What a high-energy group
today!
Thanks to everyone for
the finished quilts and an apron, for finding and making binding, for sewing
together a back, for trimming quilted quilts, for Vicki's grandchildren's extra
help, for trimming the 4-patches (trimmed ones are now in a bag, untrimmed ones
waiting for next week), for stuffing and sewing closed bags for the animal
shelter, etc, etc, etc.
Y'all were really rocking!
Will send a separate
email about Tuesday night's meeting re: input for Lyndon House.

ROW MARKERS
Second cup of tea,
reading some of the links from FaveQuilts and came across this idea for marking
rows.
Do y'all already do this?
NEXCARE for rulers
Joan Garland introduced
me to using NEXCARE flexible clear tape on the backs of my rulers to keep them
from slipping when rotary cutting. It's about as thick as Scotch tape.
It can be found in/near
the first aid section. She got hers at Walgreens and I found mine in Publix if
you want to give it a try.
=================
Hey Busy Bees!
Rain (likely) or Shine,
we'll meet Feb 5.
Bring your and
12.5" square rulers and sewing machines or use one of the Bee's. We
have some catching up to do!
Think of this as the
main course:
We'll see what tops we
have and prep fabric and sew backs and binding for Project Safe. If we get that
taken care of, it's my hope to arrange the 4-patch blocks into a top and get
that sewn together.
Think of this as
dessert:
I'm bringing a
"little" extra fabric that will need to be sorted out - but not until
after we've had the main course - otherwise we'd only have dessert!!!
It'll make sense at the Bee even if it doesn't right now.
