Hey Busy Bees

Here are some pictures from Wednesday's bee. Only some are meant for the blog, but thought you'd enjoy seeing all of them.

Pat selected fabrics to coordinate a Big Log Cabin Block that will probably be suitable for the Council on Aging. I'll try to get a pic of it when it comes back from being quilted.

That's the back of Chandler who is busy sewing, and did lots of other helpful things, too.  Susan kept busy at the other machine, and Sue helped in different ways selecting fabric, cutting, pinning, etc.

Jan cut some sparkly pink fabric to go into a top.

Pat's saying something to Nancy, and that's back of Ellen near them, and Sue who coordinated with Nancy on what to wear.

I think Sue was thinking about the yellow setting for the scrappy strips.

Susan got the bobbin wound after having a look at the machine. Sue pieced some various sized scraps into rows Tuesday night and brought them in. Setting strips were found, cut and she's measuring so it will be visually pleasing.

Asking a quilter to mend is like asking Picasso to paint your garage.

Judy and Nancy (not shown) really had a good time figuring out those cute squares, none of which were the same size.  The colors sure are kid friendly.

Susan sewing on the yellow setting strips.

Another one of Sue, this time measuring so a back could be found that would fit.

There really were a lot of other folks there, I didn't realize I got so many of Sue and Susan!

Another Preemie quilt.

Judy admired the applique on this finished quilt that Phyllis is holding up.

We do a lot of "show & tell" but ya gotta be quick or you'll miss some.

The backing for Horse Quilt #2 is a perfect match.

Several tops with backs were sent home with Ellen, so maybe next week or two we'll have to find binding and get them finished. Thanks to Jan who took quilts & binding to be done at home.

Hello y'all busy bees.
You have some wonderful suggestions, and here's the top one of the day:

Attached below in Ellen's email is an excellent tutorial that Ellen made re: binding a quilt.
And here's what I sent to Charles (because of your suggestion - THANKS!) to see if we can have a tutorial section under Community Service:

Hey Charles.
The Community Service Charity Bee has been asked from time to time how to do some quilting skills.
The bee members would like to ask if you could add a TUTORIAL section under Community Services's drop down menu.
One skill that came up today was adding binding to a quilt.
Ellen Nelson has made a tutorial for it with excellent pictures and instructions. (see attached in her email below.)
Could that be the first one? Also, will it be possible to link to other tutorials on the web?

Thanks,
Terri

Looks like Charles has some great ideas, too!
Gotta love this guild and all the great people!
Here's what he said about adding tutorials, pretty cool!!!

I actually need to watch that.  I haven't even started binding my first [and only] quilt.    I've been mulling over another section for the navigation menu.  It might be worth coming up with another menu item...something along the lines of 'Resources.'   Maybe an area geared toward beginners.....groups of video links, that kind of thing.  I should actually be able to imbed the video into the website too.

Question for the Bee is:
What's the plan for the Santa blocks?

One or more (???) of the Bee members has taken that Santa project on. Want to fess up?

Hello Busy Bees!    Just a reminder for Wednesday.

Maybe some of you will want to sew up a mega log cabin block for preemies  or Prevent Child Abuse (PCA) kids. We could get some cutters  to  feed you the logs. The center could be any size but recommendation is to cut something at least 3.5" square and then go from that to add each log.  Easy peasy, right?
Since there are 4 machines and we have thread, maybe we could start the log cabin with the same 3.5" or 4" center and then cut 2.5" - 3.5" strips and mix them up so each "cabin" could be a bit different in placement, but same fabrics. We could just keep adding logs (we're strong  so can do that nicely) until the block is 24" or 30" or so for the preemies.  After we make 4 of those, then we could make 4  larger ones for the PCA kids.  OR we could make the PCA kids ones first.

Would anyone like to sew up 3 or 4 dog  bags that can be handed out at the Guild meeting? Some members said they'd take one home to fill up and sew closed and then bring back  (could take several months to fill one) if we had the bags to give them.

Some of our fair members will be on a  jaunty Holiday.  We might turn a little green with envy, but for sure are happy for you!

cya Wednesday morning any time after 9:30.

Here's just some of what we've been doing this month.

 getting some ideas

hummmmm

it's this tall

let's see if this works

making a plan

 Kathy's cutting.

Shake it down, make a little more room for stuffing.

Jan has already made a horse quilt from other horse panels, and then these were found.

another Preemie quilt from a neat block.

Joan brought a lot of scraps to the guild meeting for stuffing dog bags.

Phyllis has a very cool quilting application - portable!

One person who didn't see the email in time that 3rd Friday was cancelled came today and was the only one there.

In future reminders about 3rd Friday maybe I could include a "reply all" request so everyone will know whether or not to come...  or, other suggestions?
How does the bee want to handle this?

As you might recall, and for you new to the charity bee,
our Community Service Charity Bee made a beautiful quilt for the Sandy Creek Nature Center some time ago for them to raffle off.
As a way for them to say Thank You to their supporters, WE - Yes! any and all of us in this bee, no matter if you are long time comers or new to the bee, are invited to:

I've been working on a rather complicated non-quilting project.   After roughly 50 hours of work...I would like to present the new Cotton Patch Quilters website!  It is still at the old web address.

http://www.cpquilters.org/

All of the information that was on the old website has been incorporated into the new site.

There are two social media updates...
We now have a Twitter account:
https://twitter.com/CPQAthensGa

We also have a new Facebook page. There was an technical issue with the old Facebook page, so if you are already following the old Facebook page, please join the new one here:
https://www.facebook.com/CPQAthensGA

Three highlights:

- There is now a blog built into the website.   I will be posting announcements, news, events, workshops, photographs, etc.  New blog posts will automatically show up on the new CPQ Facebook on Twitter pages.   You can also help promote CPQ events with a single click on a blog post to share to your Facebook and Twitter friends!

- The MembersOnly area can still be accessed with the same password that was used in the old website.  You no longer need the username.

- The new website is smartphone and tablet friendly.   iPhones, iPads, Android phones and tablets will see a version specifically formatted for them!

Please feel free to explore the new website!
